207 Art Gallery opened its doors to Art lovers in Houston, US, recently. Sabeen H. Syed, the owner, tells Pique about Art, her passion, and her dream of introducing Pakistani artists to the American audience

Art is an expression  of the imagination of the artist on a canvas. It is seen with our eyes and interpreted through our collective experiences. No two pieces are identical and each may be viewed in a different light, in a different perspective.

My dream was to bring the best Pakistani Art to America, to allow a platform for Pakistani Artists to be acknowledged, acquired and added to the best Art collections in homes and businesses in the US.

The culmination of that dream into reality was the first exhibition of 207 Art Gallery (http://www.207artgallery.com) at the prestigious Junior League of Houston. The exhibition included Art by the living greats, Mashkoor Raza, Mansoor Rahi, Hajra Mansoor, Qamar Siddiqui, Bin Qalandar and Javed Qamar.

The exhibition was standing room only; the inauguration was a roaring success and covered exclusively by the local press. It received exciting reviews and presented a Pakistan rarely seen in the United States: a Pakistan that is full of culture and overflowing with creativity; a Pakistan that has the talent to produce Art that is superlative.

Each living Pakistani legend was represented in the exhibition and most of the displayed work sold out within the first hour. It was a testament to the hunger of the Houston community to recognize and collect the best art Pakistan has to offer.

As I look toward the future, the possibilities are endless.
