The former minister for religious affairs is the only man in the history of the country to have had the dubious honor of literally giving away babies on his hit Eid transmission show, Amaan Ramzan. Claiming the prefix of Dr., his degrees were never recognized by the University of Karachi, a fact further backed by the HEC in June 2006. He resigned from his ministry in 2007. Forever mired in controversy, a leaked tape in 2011 stood in stark contrast to his devout, spiritual and gentle on-screen persona.
Love him or hate him, Hussain’s power in the hearts and minds of the average Pakistani viewer is undeniable. His Ramzan transmission, the most successful to date, was feverishly awaited by homemakers and breadwinners alike, and touted by CNN as a symbol of love and peace. Labeling the action of giving away babies abandoned in garbage dumps to willing parents as a public service, he pleaded with the public to not throw unwanted infants in heaps of rubbish. The only man capable of outdoing Hussain in 2014 Ramzan season, is Hussain himself.
