Nowadays, with the new contenders in fashion design trying to make their mark in the fashion industry, the continual competition has put Pakistan on the map. Since we are proudly being represented by our Pakistani designers on international ramps now, their amazing new designs with an eclectic mix of traditional work and fabrics have proved that Pakistani designers are in no way going to shy away from carving a niche for their designs all over the world.
HSY and Karma, two of the leading designers predict that the latest trend has everything to do with funky accessories and as for the clothes, whatever is ethnic is ‘in’. Whether it is in the form of jewelry or embroidered work on tops and kurtas, the trend is slowly going back to Eastern wear instead of the Western attire we all got so used to.
So, the highlight of year 2012 is that shalwars and short kameezes are back with a big bang. Fashion designers showcased fitted short kameezes at the PFDC L’Oreal Bridal Week (PLBW). The comeback of shalwars managed to please many traditionalists, so whether you’re a fan of narrow shalwars or ones with big painchaas, you’re in luck because this season anything goes!
Ethnic designs, ethnic accesories, chooridar pajamas and shalwars; as long as its ethnic you can’t make a fashion faux pas this season.
The layered necklace look is in fashion! Layering necklaces to achieve an extra chunky and playful effect has been in style forever. Pair a metallic layered necklace with a black dress and you will be dubbed a fashion guru. Delicate jewel chains are very feminine and they go with almost every outfit. Layered long necklaces - whether they’re delicate golden strands or bold, chunky strings of gemstones - are the must have accessory. Chunky layered beads in necklaces are very hot this season in Pakistani fashion, and they come in a variety of colours.
With the occasion of Eid bringing its joyous colours and happiness pretty soon, we are all set to see a lot of ‘mehndi’ and ‘choori’ stalls stacked up all across Lahore. Khussas and chappals have also been very in the whole summers round.
The summer collection for all designers this time around has been replete with blending the old with the new, enhanced by colours of royalty, passion and elegance, which are bound to look graceful on any woman!
Black paired with white (a classic combination, no matter what may be in fashion) are all set to take over Pakistan by storm. Other resplendent colours that have been seen on the ramp are green, turquoise and maroon, partly because of the beauty of the dark colours mixed with the light ones, and also because women love maroons and reds.
Saris, for all we know, will never go out of fashion. Solely because women look amazing in saris! The dress itself has been designed in a way to make a woman feel as precious and beautiful as she is, the draping accentuates the female physique, making her look and feel, at the same time, beautiful.

The fusion of ethnic mixed with western wear is the only way to go. Grab your wallets (or your significant other’s ATM card!) go out and go wild. There is nothing more volatile and versatile than women’s mood in picking up clothes. This is the sole reason fashion keeps changing with time and if followed closely, old trends keep on rotating after a hiatus. So ladies, keep it ethnic, add a little fusion and keep the cuts retro. You can’t go wrong this season!
